Online travel giant Traveloka has launched a movie-booking service in Thailand through a partnership with Major Cineplex, a leading film theater operator in the country.
The new Movies product, accessible via the Traveloka Xperience platform, will allow users to book and purchase seated tickets for pre-sold and premiered movies.
“Apart from a seamless movie-booking experience, users will also be able to pay using multiple channels available on Traveloka today,” said Henry Hendrawan, president of Traveloka group operations.
The company also plans to develop more products and services for its users in Thailand.
The Indonesian unicorn launched Traveloka Xperience earlier this year, allowing users to discover and book travel-related activities and attractions through its website or app.
According to the statement, Traveloka Xperience currently offers more than 20,000 travel and lifestyle products in more than 300 destinations. In addition to Thailand, it is available in Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Australia.
With Traveloka’s expansion into activities, it now competes with US accommodations platform Airbnb, which launched Airbnb Experiences in 2016, and Hong Kong’s Klook, which has over 100,000 activities in more than 270 destinations.
In July, Traveloka participated in the series B funding round of Singapore-based PouchNation, a startup that offers tech-based solutions for events. The two companies collaborate on new technologies aimed at relieving the pain points of event organizing, said Traveloka Xperience CEO Christian Suwarna.
