6 must visit landmarks in ‘Petchburi Old Town’

Petchburi province is a couple hours drive from Bangkok. Not very well known as a tourist destination, but as a province leading to more touristy destinations in the South of the country. I think it is quite interesting to spend sometime on where people usually take it for granted. Here are the lists of what I surprisingly found, and they are worth visiting!

So basically, ‘Petchburi Old Town’ are seperated into 3 major communities, and in each of them has its own uniqueness. Since the old town are located in quite a small area, each of the community is cling on to each other. Buildings around here are over a hundred years. Considering that Petchburi means the city of diamond, most of the natives here are jewelers.

One of the most famous jeweler in Petchburi is ‘Pa Nuang’. Pa Nuang was a very well known local goldsmith for over decades due to her one of a kind and delicate jewelry pieces. She was considered as a nationational artists who had worked through out 4 reigns of Thai Monarchy. The local wisdom was passed on to the next generations, and her house are still occupied by her heirs but also turned into somekind of live museum.

Maha That Worawiharn Temple

Spectacular white temple with numerous Buddhas, hundreds of them shining in gold. Hundreds years old murals can be observed on the walls of the temples. Each wall tells multiple episodes of Buddha’s lives. The monks were very sweet and were very helpful. A MUST VISIT temple, really worth the trip! Rim Nahm Muang Petch Market

Rare traditional Thai sweets can be found at Rim Nahm Muang Petch Market. All the good stuffs are here! What you should do here is to try all the sweets from the local food vendors!  Moreover, walls at the market bacame canvases for local artists. All the murals became another interesting attractions other than the mouthwatering sweets. The market opens from 8.00 am until 4.00 pm. Wat Ko Kaew Sutharam

It is a home to remarkable over hundreds years of murals. The mural portrays multiple episodes of Buddha’s lives, and also what lives were like hundreds of years ago (in the 18th century). In the mural, you can easily tell that the artist was trying to tell a story that invloved European missionaries visiting the Kingdom of Ayutthaya. A local Walking Street

A local Walking Street is a must visit place, so you could visualize,what it’s like to live a local’ lifestyle. The walking street is where local street food and goods are sold. Bring lots of change! You will have to try every kind of grab and go kind of snacks. Most of the tidbits here are homemade, so don’t miss a chance to try on local food. Rabiang Rim Nam Restaurant

The restaurant is an ancient wooden house situated beautifully by the river of Petchaburi. The theme of this restaurant is a throwback in time with great charm. The owenr of the restaurant has good music taste. The food is quite tasty, but English communication may be some problem. However, it is a nice, quiet and relaxed place.
