There is a long list of Internet service providers in Thailand, especially in major cities such as Bangkok. If going to a cyber cafe every time you need Internet services is not something you enjoy, you can get an Internet package that you can pay for on a monthly basis. Basically, there are three major players in this highly crowded field: 3BB, TOT, and True.
There are about a dozen other minor Internet service providers, some of which actually offer quite good quality services, even though their coverage might only be in some specific areas such as the cities.
True offers both wired and wireless Internet connections to Thai residents. The more popular package, True Internet, a wired Internet connection option, is available through cable modem, leased line, ADSL2+ among other wired Internet technologies. This connectivity option also offers speeds of between 6 Mb/s and 100 Mb/s.
The wireless Internet connectivity option offers significantly inferior connection speeds of up to 256 Kbt/s, and is available through GPRS and EDGE. However, the company also offers TrueMove-H, a wireless Internet option that can reach up to speeds of 42 Mb/s subject to the wireless connection technology used.
TOT is one of the most popular Internet service providers in Thailand. The wired Internet services, available through ADSL2+, Leased Line, and FTTH, can reach speeds of between 6 Mb/s and 15 Mb/s. However, with the FTTH package, users in some areas can enjoy connection speeds of up to 30 Mb/s.
TOT also offers a great wireless connectivity alternative through UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA/HSPA+ 3.9G, and Wi-Fi. Users of this option can enjoy speeds of up to 42 Mb/s. However, wireless connectivity is only found in Bangkok and its outskirts at 2100 MHz band.
