Angie’s Travel Guide to Koh Lipe, Thailand 2019

When my Thai friends talk about an island that they most likely want to visit, I always hear the words, Koh Lipe. They even have a moniker for it, “The Maldives of Thailand”. Although I’m wary of places that are often labeled as the local version of a popular destination, I was intrigued and made it a point to visit the island of Koh Lipe. I wasn’t disappointed and it’s a place that I can see myself visiting again. Koh Lipe has amazing beaches,  friendly locals, clear and warm water which is great for diving or even snorkeling and affordable food!

So when I finally got a few days off from work, I decided to plan my trip there. After a bit of research, I realized that it takes almost a day just to get to the island from Surat Thani. There are many ways to get to Koh Lipe, but I’ll write down where it is located and how to get to Koh Lipe from different areas in Thailand and Malaysia.

Where is Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe is actually further away from Thailand than Langkawi when you check on the map. This map of Koh Lipe shows that Koh Lipe is further than Langkawi if you’re coming from Satun.
